Muslim Counselling in Scarborough
Islamically-centred therapy that honours faith, mind, & heart
When mental health, faith, and values feel out of sync, therapy can help bring them back together. Offering Islamically-centred therapy in Scarborough, with online sessions across Ontario.
When faith feels far, even while you’re trying your best
There are seasons when the heart is heavy and the dua feels quiet. You still believe Allah is Merciful, but the stress, sadness, or confusion make it hard to feel close to Him. You might wonder if you’re doing something wrong, or why your salah and routine don’t bring the calm they used to.
In Muslim counselling in Toronto’s east end, we integrate psychological care with Islamic wisdom so you can heal and find a deeper connection with yourself, those around you, and Allah.
Are you struggling with:
- Living your faith while caring for your mental health
- Feeling guilty for being distant from Allah and unsure how to reconnect
- An inner critic that says you’re “not enough” as a Muslim, partner, or parent
- Balancing family, work, and spiritual responsibilities
- Feeling drained and overwhelmed, like even small tasks take enormous effort
- Finding a therapist who understands your Islamic values and culture
These are signals, not failures. Islamic therapy & Muslim counselling can help you listen to them with compassion, understand what’s underneath, and start to heal.
Muslim Counselling in Scarborough
What Is Muslim Counselling?
Muslim counselling is faith-informed psychotherapy that honours your deen, integrating Qur’anic and Prophetic guidance and Islamic Psychology (nafs, qalb, ruh) with evidence-based approaches like CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness, to address mental health concerns in a culturally and spiritually aligned way.
When To Choose Muslim Counselling:
If faith feels far, prayer is flat, and guilt grows loud, it can feel like you’re failing or simply exhausted. This corner can feel tough to get out of on your own.
At Positive Outcome Counselling & Therapy, we offer a calm, non-judgemental space to name what hurts, ease anxiety or low mood, and rebuild connection to Allah, yourself, and those you love.
Led by Jawad Bhatti, a practicing Muslim and Registered Social Worker, Islamically-centred psychotherapy sessions draw on nafs/‘aql/ruh, the Shifāʾ Method, CBT, EMDR, narrative and somatic skills translated into daily routines, boundaries, and reflection that fit real life.
We’re here to help you process pain, reflect, and renew hope.

Our Approach
How Our Muslim Counselling Works

1. Begin With Exploration
We gently map your experience through the lenses of the nafs (self), aql (intellect), and ruh (spirit), naming both symptoms and spiritual layers.

2. Integrate What Heals
We combine Islamic Psychology and the Shifāʾ Method with CBT, EMDR, mindfulness, narrative, and somatic skills, turning insight into doable daily practices.

3. Align Faith & Daily Life
We support reconnection with Allah, stronger relationships, and balanced rhythms for worship, work, and rest so change is sustainable.

Questions About Islamic Therapy & Muslim Counselling
What is Islamic Psychology?
Islamic Psychology is an approach to therapy and counselling that integrates the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical scholarship with modern psychology. It views the person holistically (mind, nafs/self, heart, and ruh/spirit) and supports healing across all dimensions. This faith-based, values-aligned care is at the core of our Muslim counselling in Scarborough and online across Ontario.
How is this different from regular therapy?
While many therapies focus only on thoughts and behaviours, Islamically-centred therapy also includes spiritual and existential concerns. This helps clients feel aligned with their faith and values while addressing mental health struggles like anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD.
Do I need to be Muslim to benefit from this approach?
Not at all. While the foundation is Islamic, non-Muslim clients who are open to spiritually centred care often find it meaningful. Sessions are adapted to your values, goals, and comfort, ensuring respectful, culturally sensitive therapy.
What is the Shifāʾ Method?
The Shifāʾ Method, developed by Dr. Abdallah Rothman, is a structured framework within Islamic Psychology. It helps clients understand states of the nafs (self), work toward purification, and cultivate balance between mind, heart, and spirit.
How many Islamic therapy sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals and needs. Some clients find clarity within a few months, while others prefer ongoing support for deeper growth. The pace is tailored to you, with options for short-term goals or longer-term therapy.
How long will it take to feel better?
Most clients begin to feel relief within the first few sessions as they feel fully understood in both their faith and struggles. More lasting change, including steadier emotions, renewed spiritual connection, and stronger relationships, typically develops over several months of consistent, values-aligned therapy.
Muslim counselling is the first step toward reflection, healing, and a stronger connection with your faith. With time and gentle support, you may begin to notice changes like:
- A stronger sense of peace and alignment between faith and mental health
- Reduced anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
- Greater self-awareness of the nafs and how patterns shape daily life
- Reconnection with Allah and renewed spiritual grounding in prayer and practice
- Healthier relationships with family, partners, and community
- More self-compassion with less guilt and shame
- Practical tools that honour Islamic values, including salah-friendly routines, reflection, and skills to practice between sessions
